WOW! It's been 17 years! 17 years I've been working on b2evolution...
I've barely noticed the time passing by but if I look back now I am stunned at the amount of work we put into it.
Over the years that little blog engine has grown into a full grown CMS / full website engine.
The web landscape has changed too...
As of today b2evolution is a unique solution for a few hundreds of websites/intranets that need advanced content management features and/or tight integration between several modules like blog/private docs/forum/mailing list.
On top of that there are thousands of enthusiasts using it for their personal blogs / websites.
I can't help but wonder though... what will it be in 5 years? in 10 years?
Also, if I started b2evolution today, I would probably do it very differently. I would probably take a static page generation approach. And I would do that for several reasons. The primary would be performance optimization for the end user. The second would be maintenance optimization for the server administrator. These are complex topics which I will not explore in details here. I wonder, though, if it would make sense to modify b2evolution's architecture to become a backoffice tool that generates static pages for the front office...
