Today, I am shutting down the centralized antispam blacklist that was accessible on:

Why?

It has not been updated in a long time, serves no real purpose and induces maintenance costs / time / headaches.

Impact on b2evolution sites

If someone were to start a new b2evolution site in 2024+ (not recommended), they would not be able to download the full antispam blacklist and they would suffer more comment spam than older users.

For all existing b2evolution users:

  • No more list updates, but all the updates you got where empty updates, for several years now!
  • b2evolution may hang until it times out on certain antispam operations, but these operations can be disabled or configured so they don’t try to connect to antispam.b2evo.net .
  • the domain names no longer resolve to an IP, so it is NOT possible for someone to set up a fake antispam site and serve fake antispam lists.

If you are concerned about this, it means you still haven’t migrated away from b2evolution CMS. As no-one stepped up to maintain it, I recommend you do think of a migration strategy. If it can give you ideas, here is mine.
